Once you’ve completed the necessary training, you can register with the AAPC or the AHIMA to take the certification exam. What Type of Medical Billing and Coder Certification Can I Get?

Once the medical billing and coding specialist obtains initial certification and some work experience, he or she may be eligible for additional certifications such as Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician based (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder – Hospital-based (CPC-H), Certified Professional Coder – Payer, Registered Health Information Technician, among others. Both the AAPC and the AHIMA offer specialty certifications to eligible individuals.
